Boekenkletspanel illustrated novel Hasselt: Dead Men Don’t Bite

In Hasselt maak je tijdens de koude decemberdagen kennis met enkele debuutschrijvers. Zo creëer je niet alleen een 'cosy esthetic' met een warm drankje, maar ontvang je ook leesinspiratie van de hoogste plank.

Op 4 december traint Laurien Vereecken (auteur en comedian) je lachspieren met een comedypanel over haar herkenbare queer roman "Sex and the Shitty". 12 december nemen Dilara Kabak (auteur), Des Kavše (illustrator) en Frantzeska Oikonomou (illustrator) je dan weer mee in het proces van hun feministische geïllustreerde debuutroman "Dead Men Don't Bite" en maak je eveneens kennis met de poëzie-apotheek. Twee verschillende panels, één boodschap: Kom af en laat je inspireren!

What does it take to survive the end of the world?

We are Dilara Kabak (author), Des Kavše (illustrator) and Frantzeska Oikonomou (illustrator), and we made Deadly Dylan: Dead Men Don’t Bite, the beginning of an illustrated book series that’s gruesome, morally complicated, and loudly feminist.

It’s also the first time any of us have done this. So we’ll be honest about that: about the challenges, the things we didn’t see coming, and how we found our footing as a team. How do you even go from an idea to a manuscript to developing a visual language?!

Of course, we will also get into bigger questions that are raised in the book. Is a female character judged differently than a male character would be for the same choices? Does the apocalypse level the playing field, or make old power structures worse? What does it take to serve justice?

And yes, there will be talk of female rage!
